A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is a procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts as a result of aging or pregnancy. As a woman ages, the skin loses some elasticity which can cause the breasts to lose their natural shape and firmness. This procedure is designed to elevate the breasts and give them a more youthful appearance. A breast lift may also be completed in conjunction with breast enlargement surgery (augmentation).
General Procedure
During your breast lift, Dr Cortés will remove excess skin and relocate the nipple to higher position. He will then perform internal breast reshaping in order to create a fuller and youthfull breast. The breast lift usually takes two to three hours . In certain situations were an implant is needed due to a loss of volume, the procedure will be longer (3-4 hours). The technique to lift the breast will vary but will depend on the amount of skin to be removed and how much the nipple and areola are moved into a higher position.
Some patients, especially those with relatively small breasts and minimal sagging, may be candidates for modified procedures requiring less extensive incisions. One such procedure is the periareolar approach in which circular incisions are made around the areola and a doughnut-shaped area of skin is removed. Dr. Cortes perform the most recent breast lift techniques to minmize the amount of scarring. If the patient is having an implant inserted along with the breast lift, the implant will be placed in a pocket directly under the breast tissue or under the muscle of the chest wall. Breasts lift surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure ( same day discharge).
Recovery Process
Generally, there is mild to moderate discomfort after surgery. The typical swelling and bruising improves in5 to 10 days. You will need to wear a support bra for 4 weeks.
